THE opening of four new district staff houses at Nawaeb in Morobe on Monday means that public servants serving the district have to be present to serve the people, says local MP and Tourism Promotion Authority chairman Kennedy Wenge.
He was speaking when opening the four houses at district headquarters in Boana on Monday as well as Boana Lutheran High School.
Wenge said K150,000 from district services improvement programme funds was used for the houses.
He told Nawaeb chief executive James Neapukali to get district public servants to perform their duties well.
“These houses should be incentive for public servants to play their part effectively in serving the people of this district with distinction.”
Wenge said they should not become stagnant and unproductive.
“They must reach out to the people in rural areas and make the people feel the presence of the government,” Wenge said.
Neapukali said officers needed accomodation to improve their performances.
“Housing is a problem,” he said.
“The opening of these houses will boost their morale to deliver to the people.”
“Provincial administrator Bart Ipambonj has emphasised on staff performance, attendance and punctuality at work.
“With the directives received from the PA’s office, we are improving on that to effectively deliver to the people.”
Wenge also opened a second Nawaeb high school at Boana.
He said Boana Lutheran High School started in 2007 and it was fitting to see that the school would enrol its first grade nines this year.
