No quality in local rugby competition

Letters

THE quality of semi-professional rugby league competition in Papua New Guinea is low and is not worth watching.
Players are playing as high school students.
The competition is not worth calling it a semi-professional competition.
Just by watching the recent game between Port Moresby Vipers and Mendi Muruks, one may wonder if any of these players are worthy of playing in the rugby world cup.
The game was marred with incomplete sets, loose balls, high turn overs, and many errors.
It was really an amateur game.
Our local game is not up to standard.
The level of fitness and skills of our local players are very low.
Even the PNG Kumus players have lost their touches.
For the world cup, PNG Kumuls coach Michael Marum should focus on picking players from the National Rugby League (NRL) and Super League.
I lost faith in our competition after watching a number of games.
The local competition doesn’t show that rugby is our national sport.
It’s a shame.
