IT is still early for the Government to determine a sponsor partnership with business houses for the 2018 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Port Moresby, PNG APEC Authority interim chief executive Chris Hawkins says.

He said contributions from businesses in host nations were common and PNG would be no different.

“There will be those chances but we are working through the budget and the estimates for the event, and it’s going to take some time,” Hawkins said.

“Last year the authority legislation was passed and it has taken some time to get everything in place so that we now have staff to get through these items.”

He said that businesses would be able to operate without major disruptions during the summit.

“We are planning this event carefully so that there would be minimal disruptions for businesses.

“We will not be in a lockdown situation all over the city, but there will be core areas where we will have the key security footprint where it’ll be a no-go area which is just a very small part in which we need to keep things safe,” Hawkins said.
