‘No structure to share data’

THERE is no structure in place for the transition of data from one government agency to another, Information and Communication Technology Digital Government and Shared Services Department executive manager Robertson Asari says.
“With such a structure in place, agencies will save cost and time for those applying for passports, work, police and other services. When agencies start to share data, we are looking to achieve a framework that allow flexible and cost effective access to personal records online or through other digital technology like bio data,” he said.
Asari said few agencies had legal mandates to share personal data due to security reasons.
“Legal mandates are put in place for security purposes. Confidentiality is the reason why data cannot be shared,” Asari said.
He said the country lacks development because of less or no data.
