Northern needs permanent health authority, says Kase

Health secretary Pascoe Kase says the Northern health authority needs a permanent chief executive to address the many issues affecting health services in the province.
In response to questions about the Popondetta hospital management issues, Kase told The National that the provincial health authority was in charge and it was its responsibility to address these issues.
“We need a permanent CEO to address the many issues affecting health services in the province, especially the provincial hospital,” he said.
“I also call on the board to advertise the position of CEO.
“Appointment must be done urgently and on merit.”
“For the Northern Provincial Health Authority (NPHA), I call on the management and board to work together for services at the Popondetta hospital and rural health services to be delivered to the people.
Northern was the 12th province to have the PHA established in December last year.
During the commissioning of the NPHA, Eric Mesak was appointed chairman and Copland Ihove was appointed acting chief executive officer for three months.
The three months has lapsed and Kase called on the board to advertise the position so that a permanent CEO is appointed.
Health/HIVAIDS Minister Sir Puka Temu said the health authority would remove politics from health.
