Nothing preventing govt from selling

Letters

THE story and the misinformation regarding the Maserati vehicles keeps going from bad to worse.
The fact of the matter is these vehicles can be exported to Australia and many other right-drive countries so long as particular protocols and conditions are met.
Persons responsible for the sale of these vehicles clearly have no idea what they are doing, certainly no understanding of the import rules and regulations of other countries or international vehicle logistics.
There are roll-on-roll-off car carriers in Papua New Guinea every month.
Continued media stories about the export and or sale of these cars does nothing to encourage PNG tax payers.
The article the other day stating that the Papua New Guinean embassies cannot use them makes for more false and untrue rhetoric.
It is evident that the people involved have no idea what they are doing.
Vehicles are shipped, exported out of PNG to locations all over the world.
The fact is the team responsible for this was advised in early days to contract the sale of these vehicles to internationally represented accounting firms.
They have offices all over the right hand drive world and could handle all the logistics ex-Port Moresby to anywhere once payment is made to the PNG tax payers.
PwC, Deloitte, etc have a vast global office network and could have had these vehicles sold within in a respectable time frame.
My company has exported many second-hand vehicles to Australia and New Zealand.
Yes, there are rules and protocols to follow for the new owners, however, there is nothing preventing the Government from selling offshore via a globally recognised company.
