THE Papua New Guinea National Research Institute (NRI) has announced the appointment of a new deputy director research.
Associate Prof Eugene Ezebilo was appointed to the senior management position after the NRI Council was satisfied with the recruitment process.
Wilson Thompson, the acting chairman of the council, said all appointments, including senior management positions, went through a stringent process.
“As per section 23 of the NRI Act 1993, the PNG NRI Council, as the governing body of the institute, is the appointing authority for staff, based on the by-laws and rules and regulations of the institute,” Thompson said.
“Ezebilo is a person of high calibre that PNG NRI is privileged to have him.
“The collective knowledge, expertise and experience that he brings further strengthens all the work of the research institution and reinforces its position as the nation’s public policy think tank.
“He is the most capable and experienced candidate and has a faultless track record in research management and publications.
“He has provided counselling, mentoring, PhD reviews and editing.
“He is a recognised post-graduate examiner and reviewer of international journals and has widely published an array of individual works with a total of 56 publications to date.”
Ezebilo joined the institute in 2015 as the senior research fellow with property sector development research programme.
In 2016, he was appointed as the programme leader and later appointed as the PNG NRI staff representative on the PNG NRI council.
He hails from Sweden and has a PhD in economics from the Swedish University of Agricultural Science (2010).
Ezebilo has nine years of experience as a lecturer and 20 years’ professional experience in research.
