THE Telikom National Soccer League (NSL) matches in Port Moresby and Lae were cancelled due to circumstances beyond the PNG NSL Board’s control.
The Port Moresby match between the Gigira Laitepo Central Coast FC and the Petro Souths was deferred to Wednesday at Bisini Soccer ground because Souths had their Friday flight cancelled while other matches to have been deferred to a later date to be specified.
Lae’s double-header was cancelled due to ethnic clashes between the people of Morobe and the Highlands.
The football matches between City Pharmacy Eastern Stars and Tukoko University and the Besta United-MMJVBulolo FC matches were also cancelled with the situation tense following rioting and clashes at Eriku in Lae’s west.
While there was no formal announcement from NSL board chairman John Kapi Natto, the Eastern Star franchise owner Joseph Ealadona told The National that the matches were cancelled due to the unrest in Lae.
