NEW Immigration and Border Security Minister Westly Nukundj plans to see officials of the Immigration and Citizenship Authority posted in PNG missions overseas.
He will push for an agreement with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on the matter. He agrees with the reforms already in place which have generated income.
He thanked his predecessor Petrus Thomas and authority executives for lifting the status of the institution in the past two years.
“I will continue from where you left off,” Nukundj said. Thomas said there were projects the authority was undertaking which Nukundj should continue.
“The projects include e-passport, the integrated advanced passenger information system and the home ownership scheme for staff,” he said.
The authority has begun talks with the National Housing Corporation for the allocation of land for housing.
“Due to the nature of our work, many of our achievements go unrecognised. But others are there for everyone to see.
“For example, visa applicants all over the world can secure a visa to visit our wonderful country and our citizens can pay for their new passports online.”
Thomas said he was proud of the achievements made in the past two years.
