THE landowner director quota on the board is prescribed under Section 176 of the Oil and Gas Act, the trust company constitution and the trust deed, according to the Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC).
Managing director Augustine Mano made the clarification after leaders in petroleum development licence (PDL) 7 in Hides, Hela called for the six regions to be represented on the board.
A week-long election programme for the PDL7 leaders to elect their board representatives began on Friday.
The programme will see 91 chairmen from category a clans elect their representatives to the board of their trust company, Gas Resources Hides 4 Ltd.
“I must follow the law and board decisions,” Mano said.
“I have to follow due process.
“The numbers of directors on the board is made clear by law.
“We have facilitated two board election processes both the plant site and pipeline areas, and those processes saw only four directors elected.”
Mano said the most difficult part was the pipeline landowners where beneficiaries are from five provinces on which the 700km pipeline runs.
He also assured them that payments would be made once a full board was in place to go over the audited accounts for the last seven years.
“Your leaders must be identified first through this election process before benefit payments are made,” he said.
The Electoral Commission, on Friday, conducted the first of six elections for the six regions of PDL7 to identify their leaders, starting with Keteranda and Parepare.
