Numu: Risk allowance matter for govt

National

RISK allowances for police officers working in the current state of emergency (SOE) is a matter for the Government to decide, Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu says.
“The SOE was sanctioned by the national Government, any decision whether police officers should be paid allowances or not lies with the national government,” Numu said.
“Police officers with allowance grievances should take it up with their respective provincial police commanders to take it up
with SOE controller David Manning.”
Complaints about allowances were raised through members of Numu’s Eastern Highlands provincial executive council (PEC).
He said K2.5 million his PEC allocated for Covid-19 operation did not included allowances for police.
“It was only for logistical support in the province such as fuel, rations, vehicles and personal protection equipment (PPEs).”

  • Risk allowances must be considered on case-by-case basis for various cadre of people engaged and factors such as direct or indirect involvement with the COVID virus has to come into play in determining details to be awarded.

Concerned agencies must consider a parallel reaction to reciprocate a “SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE” in life.

And yes the national government has to deal with this….as Numu points out.

  • Risk Allowances – can be talked about later. We have a pandemic here and covid – 19 virus is already here in the country. At this point in time we have to work without Risk Allowances first or else it will be a big catastrophe. Our lives are at stake with this disease and Risk Allowances cannot be allowed to hinder the measures the government is taking to combat the disease. We save ourselves first and later we can talk about Risk Allowances.
