THIRTY-TWO elected executives of the PNG Nurses Association were sworn in yesterday to represent nurses in the union until 2024.
“As elected leaders of the Nurses Association, it should now be your intention to serve your nurses with humility and courage,” general-secretary Gibson Siune told the executives.
Siune said it was up them to serve without fear or favour and uphold the nurses’ code of ethics in the service.
Frederick Kebai was re-elected as president and Damaris Penias was re-elected treasurer.
Esther Pisoro was elected as the new vice-president.
Magistrate Sandy Tiankin sworn in eight regional representatives and 21 branch executives from provinces.
Kebai encouraged his fellow executives to use only the constitution as the governing tool and to observe the nurses’ standards and code of ethics.
He said the difficult financial times the country faced should not deter the implementation of the planned project and strategies in addressing nurses’ issues.
Kebai said nurses had issues regarding welfare and the terms and conditions of employment.
He said housing was a main concern for nurses and something the executives would continue to address.
