Nurses discuss work ideas

THE Perioperative Nurses Society will hold its annual conference starting today with members from 10 provinces.
Perioperative Nurses Society president Eunice Laim said the society had held a conference annually since its inception in 2004.
Laim said the idea behind the two-day conference was to bring perioperative nurses together to discuss and share ideas about the changes in practices to ensure uniformity across the country.
The Perioperative Society of Nurses has 350 members that include nurses in surgical wards, operating theatres, intensive care and emergency units. “Perioperative nurses are nurses who look after patients before they go for surgery, during and after surgery,” Laim said.
“We do not have any sponsors and because we have nurses spread right across the country, we always find ourselves faced with the challenge of bringing our members together for events like this. Most people do not know about us even though this is our 14th year of existence.”
Laim said the government needed to support conferences like this because it was through these types of meetings that discussions took place to impart knowledge on surgical patient care.
