Nursing school graduates 62, highest since inception

Education

THE Unitech Lae School of Nursing last week saw 62 student nurses, the highest number graduate since the school’s inception.
Student graduate representative Tom Peter said this was a success despite the disruptive academic year brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said in addition to the pandemic, the school had its own internal challenges which included over-crowding in classrooms, training facilities and dormitories with such a huge intake. The students’ commitment to completing the academic year, receiving their diploma and provisional licence was commended by the nursing school and representatives of the health profession on occasion to witness the 14th graduation.
Dr Nina Joseph, PNG Nursing Council registrar said the population was growing and there was a need for committed loyal nurses with the heart to serve the people.
She urged the graduates to stay committed to this noble calling.
As the 62 students lit their candles to recite their pledge, Health Secretary Dr Osborne Liko reminded them to reflect on the life of Florence Nightingale, the mother of the nursing profession.
