Nursing school launches new infrastructure

THE West New Britain Nursing (WNB) College will have its own administration building through a partnership with the provincial government and the provincial health authority (PHA).
Two dormitories and a mess hall were also launched last Thursday and witnessed by the chief executive officer for PHA Stanis Tao, Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHerst) deputy secretary Lonie Barkie and WNB Governor Sasindran Muthuvel.
Tao said that the development proved that human resource in the health sector was being empowered by the government.
“Human resource is the centre for all development and this new administration shows that the government supports the health sector not just in West New Britain but throughout the country,” he said.
Governor Muthuvel said his government would provide the tertiary education scholarship assistance scheme (Tesas) assistance to the nursing school as part of the continued partnership with DHerst.
“We will give all our efforts to support this school of nursing through the Tesas scholarships,” he said.
Muthuvel said he was proud of this achievement and the school’s the third graduation ceremony.
Barkie said the establishment contributed to the development goals of the government.
“This development will see an increase in spaces for enrolment, provide quality nursing programmes which will produce relevant and sound knowledge for the working field,” he said.
The project was initiated by the PHA board in 2016 and it was recently implemented under the provincial government.
