THE International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) in New Zealand has given more than K15,000 to the people of Moge Pangump clan of Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, who lost their houses and properties in fire in January.
The clan lost more than 40 houses and properties in the fire when they involved in fight with their neighbouring moge clan during the New Year celebration.
Also in the fight, an Engan man was killed while several others were injured.
The Pangump clan was seeking assistance from various government offices and companies but did not get any support.
The ITF stepped in as the first organisation to give a helping hand to people who have been affected.
ITF Papua New Guinea president Simon Kama thanked ITF New Zealand for showing their support to the people who have lost their houses and properties, adding that it was disappointing that the government did not assist.
Kama, who is also a member of the clan, told the people over the weekend that even though he sought assistance from the government and other donor agencies, all his attempts were unsuccessful.
He thanked ITF for stepping in and assisting his people to rebuild their lives.
Kama told the people to change their behaviors and live a good life and do something constructive.
He said what money given would be shared among the families affected to build new homes.
