PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill says his government has done more in the first four months to address corruption and quality of life issues, than the previous regime did in nine years.
In an address to the nation, he said in parliament the government brought in free education, established Task Force Sweep, provided more than K120 million to improve health infrastructure in government and church-run facilities.
He said the four-month government had removed improperly appointed public servants, distributed DSIP and other funds fairly for the first time, raised the tax-free threshold so that grassroots people were exempted income tax.
“In 2012, we will tackle the issue of housing affordability,’’ he said.
“We will implement the majority of the recommendations of the ICCC report on PNG housing and real estate industry.
“We will develop land for general release to the public at affordable prices and drive down housing costs.
“We will revoke UDL’s where lessees have not complied with the covenants and have sat on undeveloped land to drive up price.”
