THE Ombudsman Commission will encourage voters to look for leaders with integrity during its month-long pre-election awareness programme.
Acting Chief Ombudsman Michael Dick said the awareness would educate voters on how to identify true leaders.
“When the officers travel to all the provinces and districts, the voters must ask them about their powers and their rights and how to use them in the election,” he said.
“The Commission officers will be educating voters on the kind of leaders they should be looking out for and the rights they have under the constitution to vote for persons of their choice.”
The awareness starts on February 19 and ends on April 8 before the writs are issued to assist voters identify and vote for persons with the attributes necessary to become members of parliament.
He said the Commission had budgeted for K1.8million for the awareness but only received K500,000.
“There will be additional funding to assist us with the awareness and we have received assurance from the Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari,” he said.
“This awareness would be better because we will be going right to the districts and the local level governments.”
