THE Auditor-General’s Office has a strategic plan that will see it better able to meet its responsibilities, an official says.
Secretary to Prime Minister and National Executive Council Ivan Pomaleu said this at the launch of the office’s five-year strategic plan in Port Moresby on Monday.
He said the role of the Auditor-General’s Office had been demanding, complex and challenging but having a strategic plan was the first step in the right direction.
Pomaleu said the strategic plan, which was presented by deputy secretary Frank Aisi, the office was evidence driven and often operated in environment of extreme ambiguity.
“It’s a road where you become exposed to what is happening across the executive government,” he said. “A role where you walk that fine line of holding successive governments to account.
“Auditor-General’s work requires deep technical knowledge of the legislations, regulations, polices and standards as well as an awareness of the policy content in which you are auditing.
“You have an enduring role to educate public officers on their risks and to communicate with them the importance of compliance, accountability and transparency.”
Pomaleu commended Auditor-General Gordon Kega and the strategic planning team for developing a the five-year plan.
The vision and mission of the strategic plan is to add value to the service delivery for the people of PNG.
