A PAPUA New Guinea policewoman attending a work course in India has fallen ill with a life-threatening illness and needs urgent medical attention.

Snr Const Dorothy Wane (pictured), 36, was diagnosed with breast cancer and must undergo surgery and chemotherapyin New Delhi.

Wane and a colleague travelled to India early last month to attend a three-month course sponsored by the Indian government when she fell ill.

According to doctors, Wane needs surgery on her left breast and chemotherapy to live.

However, to make that happen, Wane must pay K60,000 – money which is not immediately available to her family.

Thousands of miles away from India, Wane’s children are praying and waiting for a miracle to happen at their Port Moresby home.

Jacinta, 14, Angela, 11, Abraham, 8, and two-year-old Solomon sit with their father each night and pray for divine intervention.

Wane’s husband Robert is distraught but being a father he wants to be strong for the sake of their children.

“Every night I reassure them that mama will be OK but I am worried,” he said.

Robert, a police detective chief sergeant, said after exhausting all their savings on medical expenses, the only option now was to make an appeal through the media for donations.

“I am fervently praying for generous Papua New Guineans to donate funds for Dorothy’s medical operation so she can live to see our children grow,” Robert said.

Wane, from Jiwaka, served the constabulary for more than 14 years in various capacities before assuming her role as a forensic detective attached to Interpol at the police headquarters in Port Moresby.

Anyone wishing to assist Wane can contact Insp David Terry at police headquarters on mobile phone 7390 9505 or Chief Sgt Robert Wane on 7278 0163.

Cash contributions can be deposited into the family account at BSP Waigani, account number 1000334543.
