MORE charges are expected to be laid against the policeman who caused an accident at Waigani Boulevard on Friday.
Officer in-charge of the National Capital District Traffic office Insp Joseph Salle told The National that depending on how soon the survivors were able to speak to police, the officer was only charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death.
“The officer will be hit with more charges once we get a hospital report on the condition of the survivors who are recovering at the Port Moresby General Hospital,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner for police operations Donald Yamasombi the details of the case had been left to the NCD Command to brief the media on the outcome of the case.
However, Yamasombi confirmed that he had issued a directive to the NCD Command to ensure the Gordon Police Station commander, his second in command and the shift supervisor were looked at closely in relation to how the officer was allowed to take a police vehicle home.
He said they would look at the incompetency of the senior officers in looking after police assets.
