A POLICE officer was allegedly killed by his wife, also a police officer, while returning from a nightclub in Madang early on Sunday morning, according to police.
Madang provincial police commander Chief Inspector Ben Neneo, who was leading the investigation, could not be reached for comment yesterday. But Assistant Police Commissioner Peter Guinness, who is in charge for the Northern command, confirmed the death of the police officer and the arrest of his wife, a female officer. The wife, who was based in Lae, is awaiting her court appearance at Beon prison.
It is alleged that Senior Constable Charles Kukari was returning from a nightclub with another wife, when he was stabbed in the chest at the car park.
Relative Andy Gawi said Kukari was taken to hospital but died.
Kukari’s body was sent to Port Moresby yesterday and will be flown to his second home in Biala, West New Britain.
He was from Woginara, in East Sepik. He is survived by six children from his first marriage.
He was engaged by the Madang provincial government to investigate an alleged misuse of public funds between 2012 and 2017.
He had caused the arrest of four people in relation to the case.
