A SENIOR Customs officer has been suspended pending a police investigation into the whereabouts of several firearms that were in his custody.
Customs chief commissioner David Towe said on Thursday that the officer was suspended from office two weeks ago after being arrested and questioned by police.
Towe said the officer, as part of his duties, was supposed to take stock and account for all firearms belonging to Customs as well as firearms seized from imports including ammunition.
However, Towe said several firearms including ammunition had gone missing and the officer had ignored repeated requests for him to provide an explanation on their whereabouts.
