TWO prison officers were cleared and another two fined following an internal investigation by the Correctional Services into Tommy Maeva Baker’s escape from custody.
The two fined were suspended by the CS last year.
Baker, desperately sought by police in Alotau for a series of crimes, disappeared from the Port Moresby General Hospital while undergoing treatment.
CS Acting Commissioner Stephen Pokanis said four officers were implicated.
The two paid fines of K1000 and K200 for negligence causing the escape to occur.
“I cannot disclose names of the officers for security reasons and also to avoid legal implications,” Pokanis said.
He said the investigation found that two officers were not party to escorting the detainee to the hospital at the time.
“Two officers who took the detainee were found to be negligent.”
The investigation took four months.
