Officers get land title

TWENTY officers from the Department of Foreign Affairs have been given land titles as part of the National Affordable Land and Housing programme.
Project consultant Les Jones Vagi said the programme was initiated by the Government to provide affordable housing for civil servants in Port Moresby.
They will be able to own their own homes in the capital city.
He said public servants faced the burden of looking for land, obtaining land titles, seeking financing for building materials.
“We would like to come up with a one-stop shop approach,” Vagi said.
The process starts with being selected in with an offer of a land title and financing options.
The next step is to collect all the necessary documents and requirements that banks will need to assist them in assessing individual capacity to finance. And the home will be built through mortgage financing.
“It really takes a while to get everybody who are selected under this pilot project to own their own homes,” he said.
“We have collaboration with all our partners and stakeholders to ensure that this programme is managed well right through to the end.”
He said the pilot project site was at Gerehu Stage 3B, along the new road from Gerehu to 9-Mile.
