Officers held as police make effort to keep force clean

FIVE police officers have been arrested for allegedly being involved in a road accident, releasing a prisoner from police custody and using a vehicle illegally at Gordon.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou said the five officers were allegedly involved on two occasions last year and this year when the investigation team caught up with them.
N’dranou said three airport police officers were allegedly drunk during working hours, held up a Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) operator and picked up a used firearm, money and other stuff from the vehicle and drove off.
They crashed their police vehicle at Saraga, near 6-Mile.
Perou said the other two officers had a case last year when they were arrested for allegedly releasing a Bomana prisoner at the Boroko cell and illegally using a police vehicle.
They were on bail last year but because it had exceeded the duration period, the court ordered a warrant of re-arrest. All the officers are in police custody.
“Policing the police team will continue to do their work and need public support to provide information on any police allegation and continue make arrests,” he said.
Minor Crimes at Gordon police station Senior Sergeant Apollos Terry said the station commander at the airport police, Robert Wane, did a great job to bring his own men to the police for what they had done.
“I appeal to other PSCs to follow suit and start reporting allegations their officers are practising against the disciplined forces,” Terry said.
“Such few officers are spoiling the image of the police and officers will go down to the root to remove those who practise such activities.”
