Official calls on people to make use of opportunities

PAPUA New Guineans have been urged to be business-minded and practise self-control when running businesses, according to an official.
Small to Medium Enterprise Corporation and National Development Bank chairman Michael Mell said the Government had put money into banks and it was up to the people to make the SME policy work.
“Stop wasting your time and money, manage it,” he said.
He was in Port Moresby last week during the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Department of Commerce and Industry and NDB for a MSME credit facility of K80 million.
Mell said SMEs had been around for a long time.
He said there was at least someone in a household involved in some sort of SME.
“Now that the Government has come (up with this facility), it is up to those of us in the SME sector to drive it. Let us think outside the box. We have to start to do things differently.
“Let’s be honest and deliver this policy to our people without any deals over the table or under the table.
“We have to cut it off. Let’s stop this habit of corruption.”
He urged Papua New Guineans to venture into business and get loans provided by the Government.
