THE National Capital District Commission has thanked Port Moresby residents for a peaceful festive season.
Acting city manager Ravu Frank thanked residents for a generally peaceful Christmas and New Year.
Frank attributed the peaceful celebrations to the positive attitude of the majority of the residents and made special mention of the tireless efforts of city police under the leadership of the Acting Commander for NCD and Central, Anthony Wagambie Jr and the Met Supt Perou N’dranou.
“I commend the majority of city residents for the peaceful Christmas and New Year in the city,” he said.
“Christmas and New Year in the city was relatively quiet and peaceful
and I am very grateful and appreciative of the positiveness of the residents.”
Many residents opted to celebrate in their homes and communities and apart from minor disturbances, Port Moresby was generally quiet.
Frank said police operations over the festive period contributed significantly to the peace and quiet and any potential disturbances were prevented from escalating.
Police presence on the streets avoided any thoughts of misbehaviour by residents who co-operated and supported the efforts to keep the peace.
“I applaud the efforts by city police under the strong leadership of the Acting Commander NCD/Central Anthony Wagambie Jr and the Met Supt Perou N’dranou,” Frank said.
“They did a tremendous job and I commend their tireless efforts for the safety and wellbeing of the city residents over the Christmas and New Year period.”
Frank urged city residents to maintain this attitude for a peaceful and a positive New Year.”
