The Erima Offseason Games will be going into round three this weekend at the Erima Sports Park in Port Moresby.
The Games are an initiative of a group of youths and community leaders who wanted to support other youths in the area.
The Games aim is to empower and educate youths on social issues affecting everyone in their communities and how to help create unity.
“Covid-19 has affected everyone across the globe and our community at Erima is no exception,” Games organising committee official Tommy Kivu said.
“We’ve seen a rise in alcohol abuse, violence and other crimes in our community.
“So through these Games, we’ve changed that by setting up some strict competition rules.
“All the youths are now busy with training for the weekend games and we have seen a lot of changes since the games started.”
There are 16 women’s teams taking part in soccer and 36 men’s sides competing in touch.
Kivu said the Games kick off at 9.30am on Saturdays and Sundays, and will end with the finals next month.
“There will be prizes at the end of the season and I am working around the clock to secure sponsors,” he said.
He is calling on business houses around Erima and the National Capital District to support the initiative.
The committee also has plans to create awareness on social issues.
