EAST Sepik regional MP Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare yesterday announced a ministerial cabinet after its members were sworn in at the Government House by Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio.
When news of the event reached parliament where the house was in session, parliament summoned Ogio to be in the chamber at 2pm to swear in Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill as prime minister.
Ogio did not turn up at parliament and was suspended. Parliament Speaker Jeffery Nape automatically took over the role as acting governor-general and swore in O’Neill as prime minister and his ministers to their respective ministerial portfolios.
While Sir Michael and his team were at the Morauta Haus, the O’Neill-Namah regime continued with yesterday’s parliament sitting.
At Morauta Haus, Sir Michael said: “I am confident that common sense will prevail.”
