The National, Wednesday 30th November 2011
THE 2011 World AIDS theme is zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, zero AIDS-related deaths.
In a statement, Oil Search said it was committed to working with the national government and development partners to achieve that vision.
“As part of the World AIDS Day activities, Oil Search is conducting a range of events for its workforce and local communities.
“Community events have taken place across the week, including distributing information materials and free condoms, conducting drama activities and town hall presentations,” the statement said.
“In Kutubu, sports activities have been utilised as a means to disseminate HIV prevention and stigma mitigation messages with a basketball competition being held at several community venues.
“In the newly-created Hela province, poem and essay competitions will help school students demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of HIV.
“Several of the public presentations have involved people living with HIV giving an account of their experiences, particularly the benefits of receiving HIV treatment that keeps them well.
“Employees of Oil Search have been encouraged to pledge their commitment to reducing HIV-related discrimination and adopting safer sex practices.
“They are encouraged to promote HIV testing by wearing promotional Tee-shirts and hats with the message Kisim HIV tes nau.
“Oil Search senior management has shown support and leadership.”
