THE PNG Laboratory Accreditation Scheme has renewed Oil Search’s Laboratory ISO-17025 accreditation following a demonstration of its technical competence for chemical and microbiological testing.
According to Oil Search, its laboratory provides daily analytical support and analysis for the PNG Business Unit oil and gas production operations.
The laboratory also oversees the management of production chemicals used in the operations. The main responsibilities of the Oil Search laboratory are:

  • Testing and certifying Jet A-1 fuel and diesel;
  • analysis of crude oil and condensate;
  • natural gas sampling and testing;
  • environmental water analysis (waste water, potable water, bore water and surface water) for regulatory compliance; and,
  • Performance monitoring and optimisation of production chemicals used in the field.

Oil Search executive general manager for PNG business unit Julian Fowles said: “Being ISO-17025 accredited demonstrates that we are technically proficient and are able to produce precise and accurate test data as done anywhere else in the world.”
The Oil Search laboratory was first accredited in March 2013.
