Ok Tedi’s development arm gets new chief officer
HAVINI Vira has been appointed as the new chief executive of the Ok Tedi Development Foundation (OTDF).
OTDF is the legal entity that manages community development benefits from Ok Tedi mine operations on behalf of the 147,000 river residents living in 158 villages throughout Western.
No stranger to OTML, Vira was team leader rural development with OTDF while it was a department of Ok Tedi Mining Ltd.
In this role, he led various agriculture, fisheries and forestry pilot projects throughout the CMCA (community mine continuation agreement) communities.
He left in 2010 to join the National Fisheries Authority where he also completed a Masters in Biology (Aquaculture) at University of NSW.
Returning to OTDF in 2018, he served as executive manager programme services with responsibility for infrastructure development, sustainable programme services, operations and monitoring and evaluation.
Vira said his goal had been to improve efficiencies in OTDF’s operations.
