South Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu launched another district services improvement programme-funded project at Malabita Primary School, on the outskirts of Buin town, in South Bougainville, on Friday last week.
A K250,000 two-in-one classroom was the first modern facility built at the 60-year-old Catholic school.
Masiu opened the Marau Market in the Bana district on April 21. The market has become an important trading point for the people of Bana and Torokina, including Rotokas, Eivo and Karato in Central Bougainville.
Masiu appealed to the people to have a school library.
He also announced that an aid post for Malabita community would be built before the end of this year.
Masiu has appealed to former students of the school working around the country to give something back to the school.
Masiu said he was impressed with the quality of work and the performance of the contractor completed the project on budget.
“The quality of work done is worth the money spent,” he said.
Masiu said professionalism and honesty of the contractor was a far cry from the corruption that was rampant in the past, resulting in projects not being delivered and allocated project funding being blown out.
“For too long the people of South Bougainville have been victims of lies and corruption,” he said.
“In my time, I will not entertain such practices. We are slowly and surely establishing processes and systems that are transparent and do not have blockages.”
