Olga lauded for city’s progress

WESTERN Highlands Governor Tom Olga has been commended for taking the lead to develop Mt Hagen city.
Lord Mayor Titus Doa told a gathering at Palimp Village, outside Mt Hagen,Western Highlands, that no past governor had taken such initiative to develop the city.
Doa said Olga had a strong vision with his redevelopment plans now being implemented.
He said the councillors would support the governor.
Olga said out of the K123 million budget, K22 million had been allocated for the city development.
He said the fund was within his K1.1 billion city re-development master plan, which would be rolled out over a 15-year period.
He said some problems facing the city such as traffic jams, street lights, water problems, sewage system and the re-development of Kagamuga Airport would be addressed.
Olga said reconstruction of the domestic terminal should begin in August.
He said K100 million was allocated for the reconstruction of the headquarters building, which was burnt down in 2008.
He said the tender was advertised two weeks ago inviting interested companies to remove old iron structures.
He said to address law and order pro­blems in the city, he had allocated K200,000 annually under its “Hagen Kona Kai” concept to help police.
He said he needed support and cooperation from stakeholders in the province to promote tangible developments.
