A MAN is dead while another had one of his legs amputated in one of the worst traffic accidents reported to police.
Wewak police station commander Insp Raphael Rafa said the third victim at the weekend sustained major injuries.
The two injured men were admitted to the Wewak General Hospital early Saturday morning.
All three were in a truck when it ran off the road last Friday night.
The identity of the dead was withheld by police as there was tension among family members.
Police said the truck belonging to company, was travelling at high speed when it ran off the road at Yambi, Wosera.
All three were onboard.
Rafa said a traffic policeman and the company’s public relation officer left Wewak yesterday to talk to relatives of those involved in a bid to ease the tension, especially residents along the Yangoru section of the main Sepik highway.
He appealed to relatives of the victims not to take matters into their own hands and let police handle the situation.
