PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has called on the people to make leaders of the Africa Caribbean Pacific countries feel welcome in the country.
The three-day summit of the ACP countries heads of State and Government begins in Port Moresby today at the International Convention Centre in Waigani.
O’Neill said it would be the first time Papua New Guinea was hosting the event and hoped “we will be able to deliver a first class conference”.
“This is the beginning of many other conferences that are going to come to Papua New Guinea,” he said.
“We look forward to hosting them. I appeal to the residents of Port Moresby to please look after our visitors in a truly Melanesian way.
“We are known for our genuineness, our hospitality and our ability to look after our visitors. Please ensure that they have a memorable time in Port Moresby.
“Some of them will be travelling around Papua New Guinea. Let us look after them in the true spirit of Melanesian hospitality that we normally extend to our visitors.”
O’Neill said it was a “very important meeting”.
“Let’s put our domestic issues aside for a while,” he said.
“Let’s focus on giving our visitors a very-good time. This particular meeting will showcase Papua New Guinea in the light that it deserves. Look at the positives and don’t look at the negativity.
“Everybody has got challenges, but Papua New Guineans must see the positive growth of our country, developments that are taking place, have confidence on our country.”
