IALIBU-PANGIA MP Peter O’Neill has called on the Internal Security Minister Peter Tsiamalili Jnr to take action, investigate and arrest the perpetrators involved in the torture and killing of women in Enga’s Lakolam village.
O’Neill said that sorcery accusation-related violence (Sarv) was an important issue that affected people’s lives.
“Citizens of our county, Papua New Guineans, women, are losing their lives due to sorcery accusation violence and I read in the newspapers that they are calling out for help, they are calling out for justice, for the perpetrators to be arrested,” he said.
O’Neill said that too many women’s lives were lost to Sarv but no one seemed to care.
Tsiamalili said that he had taken note of the issue and would look into it.
“Most of the problems in our country are to do with leadership, so I will need each and every one of the 118 leaders of this honourable house to work together to address this,” Tsiamalili said.
Enga governor Peter Ipatas said he was not aware of the Lakolam Sarv case and said that no one had reached out to him for help.
Wabag MP Dr Lino Tom said there were government mechanisms in place to address the issue.
