PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill will lead a government and business delegation to China next week to further strengthen economic and trading relations.
The visit will include meetings with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other senior government leaders.
“The relationship we have with China continues to strengthen and this delivers real economic benefit to the people of Papua New Guinea,” O’Neill said.
“We will advance a number of agreements that will contribute to trade, infrastructure development and travel between our two countries.
“There is a great deal we can do to strengthen cooperation in areas (such as) agriculture, forestry, fisheries, transportation and communications.
China has developed technologies that have direct application in our primary industry sectors, and we will enhance co-operation in these areas.”
O’Neill said there were other policy matters to be discussed in Beijing.
“These include matters that are advanced through forums such as the United Nations and APEC, as well as issues of bilateral significance,” he said.
O’Neill will also attend the 2016 Eco Forum Global in Guiyang.
“The annual Eco Forum in Guiyang focuses on green development, nature conservation and climate change and is an important opportunity to evolve relevant global issues,” O’Neill said.
