Opportunity wasted

I often see secondary school students walking in pairs after school and using a shortcut past my residence to spend time together.
I think they are wasting their parents’ time.
Today’s children get educated for free unlike back in our time in the ’80s and ’90s when our parents struggled with the little they had to pay our school fees.
These students are wasting the opportunities free education is offering.
No wonder every year only the hard-working students make it to higher institutions while the majority are left without an offer.
The only hope for these children is to get back home and feel what it is like to be in the village. Waste of time.
I wish I was born in this era so I could make use of the free education available.
