SAROA volleyball underdogs Orange (men’s) and Blue (women’s) bagged the inaugural honours at the Saroa village court in Rigo, Central on Saturday.
These grand finals featured some of the up and coming hidden talents in the village and also the boys coming all the way from Gereka.
In the men’s hosts Orange squeezed the juicy out of experience Gereka (Grey) outfit 3-0 in a close finish off in the third set. Orange started the campaign with excellent set up and bombarded the opposition line time and again to snatch the crown with score line of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-22.
Gereka had the starters but did not perform and were hurt badly by the home side.
Orange’s captain Vaira Tauka said we were prepared to take on our opposition knowing that we have to start off well to beat them and we did that in style.
Gereka captain Isaiah said we did not start off well and had to pay the prize for that.
In the women’s Blue down 2-0 to Green fired back to level the score lines and then continue to maintain the pressure to cruise home 3-2.
Blue’s Aishar Robert and Anette Vari organised their unit in the third set and frustrate Green who were taken to sorts.
But that was all close and going down to the wire.
Captain Robert said it was all hard work that paid off.
“We were trailing 2-0 and had to contain the pressure and play according to our game plan.
“This was rewarded with good that hurt the opposition line time and again.”
