Organisers to plan for NCD Governor’s Cup

ORGANISERS of the National Capital District (NCD) Governor’s Cup will use the month to plan for this year’s tournament following the opening of services and venues by the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation.
Tournament director Simon Nuabo told The National that the organising committee would be looking into how the tournament would be played, given the surge in Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases.
“This month will just be for planning and putting together a schedule for how we intend to run the tournament,” he said.
“We’ve learnt a lot from the past two tournaments since the National Capital District Commission took over the hosting of the event.
“It has become even harder with the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country, so how we plan and prepare is very important.
“Another milestone for us is that we are now affiliated to the PNG Rugby Football League, we’re a sanctioned tournament.
“This is another bonus for us because we also get to bring in experts to oversee matches.”
Nuabo reiterated the importance of the tournament in showcasing local talents, given the limited number of stronger competitions in the country.
“It’s important that we run tournaments like this, so that we give our players the chance to showcase themselves to Digicel Cup franchises,” he said.
