MATERNITY wards at public hospitals received 4,800 umbilical clamps during a Christmas visit by Origin Energy staff.
The hospitals visited by Origin Energy staff were Port Moresby General Hospital, Angau Hospital, Mt Hagen General Hospital, St Mary’s Vunapope Hospital, Alotau General Hospital and Kavieng General Hospital.
Susan Kolopu, the sister-in-charge of the labour ward at the Mt Hagen General Hospital said it was timely because they had just run out of umbilical clips.
As part of the community initiative, Origin Energy staff also served free lunch to over 600 mothers in the maternity wards they visited.
Origin’s national marketing manager Lesieli Taviri indicated that the initiative would be an annual event in their community events calendar.
Taviri said although it was a small donation she believed it would go a long way in assisting mothers and babies.
