Oro artisans, vendors receive financial literacy training

ARTISANS and vendors in Northern came together to share skills on traditional handicraft making and received training on financial literacy as part of a programme to strengthen small businesses.
According to a statement from the Australian High Commission, the programme aimed to empower local people who make and sell goods, including women and small business owners, so that they can better generate and manage income from the trekking industry.
Locals from Buna and Sanananda undertook training at the Buna Museum and Trade Centre, with funding support from the PNG-Australia Partnership’s Kokoda Initiative.
The product development workshop was attended by 30 participants who shared skills and exchanged knowledge about a range of local handicrafts.
The group produced more than 60 products during the week-long session.
Financial literacy training was delivered by Small Medium Enterprises Corporation trainers and would contintinue to Efogi, Alola and Mt Koiari.
