THE Oro Amateur Boxing Association has called on the their provincial government to immediately release funds intended for boxing.

Interim president Don Hauko said Governor Gary Juffa had made a commitment to support boxing in the province and allocated K90,000 last year.

However according to Hauko, the funds were never given and he wanted to know why.

“Our programmes and plans did not eventuate including the staging of a provincial tournament and our participation at the national championships in Rabaul last year,” Hauka said.

He called on the relevant authorities to release the money for the association to prepare for the PNG Games in Lae.

Hauko said Oro boxers had potential but needed the exposure to develop their talent and this could only be achieved through necessary support and resources.

“It (waiting for the money) is really frustrating and as a result interest in boxing is being killed by the lack of action from the governor’s office.”
