OPERATIONS are said to be normal at the Hides Gas to Electricity (GTE) plant following threats by factions of disgruntled landowners to disrupt operations.
Oil Search Ltd, which operates there, announced this yesterday in response to recent media reports that landowners had shut down the plant.
“We can confirm that a trench was dug across the access road in protest near Yuni in Hides.
However, this illegal activity did not stop operations as reported in the media.
“Oil Search also denies any attempts to send landowners back to Hides to resolve this issue.
“It is understood that certain landowners alleged there are outstanding amounts due for the use of their land for the Hides GTE project,” the management said.
According to Oil Search records, the land for the Hides GTE project was acquired legally by the state at its commencement and there were no outstanding amounts due.
“The company calls on those involved to deal lawfully with the authorities to resolve their claims including use of the courts if required.
“Oil Search is fully committed to protecting its employees, contractors and properties and will not hesitate to allow for the arrest of perpetrators that impose threats on its employees and that fail to address concerns in a legal and peaceful manner.”
