THE Tabubil Private Hospital in Western’s North Fly, received a new atom infant incubator as one of OK Tedi (OTML) Women’s Network initiative last Tuesday.
A representative from the women’s network and OTML’s People and Culture general manager Mark Stone presented the equipment to the hospital.
The network’s secretary Paige Levakia, said this initiative was part of the groups objective on health, safety and awareness of women so it was through this fundraising drive during the cancer awareness campaign from October-November last year that helped them raise funds for the incubator.
Levakia said after hearing stories from many women in Tabubil who lost their infants, the fundraising target was to raise funds for the atom infant Incubator.
“The atom incubator was bought at a total cost of K50,000,” she said.
Hospital administrator Margareth Samei acknowledged support.
“An incubator is a special bed for infants and unlike a simple bassinet, it provides an environment that can be adjusted to provide ideal temperature as well as the perfect amount of oxygen, humidity and light,” she said.
Samei added doctors, midwives and nurses at the hospital special care nursery had been nursing premature and sick infants without an incubator over the last five years.
She said most times the staff provide nursing care without equipment to improve infants conditions before being discharged.
