THE Eastern Highlands government is spending more than K3 million for classroom infrastructure in the province, administrator John Gimiseve says.
Gimiseve said this while presenting a cheque to Atlas Steel PNG in Port Moresby on Friday.
“We have built three four-in-one classrooms, but there are also nine schools that have benefited from your services through the provincial government and administration in terms of building infrastructure using your products,” he said.
Eastern Highlands acting director for education Wesley Albert said their main focus was to recruit quality teachers and to have a quality curriculum and with quality infrastructure.
He said in order to have quality infrastructure, they engaged Atlas Steel to build classrooms in 15 schools in the province.
Albert said the idea was to have strong long-lasting infrastructure that would save costs in the long run.
He said in the past, the provincial government had spent more money on building classrooms that did not last long.
Albert said nine schools in the province had benefitted from the service; eight four-in-one classrooms had been built, as well as one director’s house.
He said they had five four-in-one classrooms and another director’s house were yet to be built.
Albert said the total cost of building all these infrastructure was K3,843,000.
