DIPLOMATIC missions from the US, Australia and the European Union yesterday supported the national haus krai at Sir John Guise Stadium and violence against women.

“All of us need to act to eliminate gender-based violence,” US Ambassador Walter North said.

“I especially encourage men to step forward and do the right thing.

Men have often been defined as part of the problem but many of them have stood up to be part of the solutions.

“The embassy welcomes the participation of more men as advocates in their communities and as voices that speak out against violence towards women and girls.

“The United States calls for stronger protections for women, including more effective laws, better law enforcement, the enhancement of prevention and response efforts, and the reduction of stigma and harmful practices.”

Australian High Commissioner Deborah Stokes conveyed the undivided support of her people for this cause.

“I convey the solidarity of the Australian people for your cause,” she said.

European Union (EU) head of delegation to PNG, Ambassador Martin Dihm, who represents 27 European countries, spoke strongly against the issue.

“We stand united to fight against violence against women, children, and girls.

“It must be stopped

“The fight has started today and it can be d one.”
