FOLLOWING the announcement of the suspension from international duties of Hebou PNG Barramundis fast blower Nosiana Pokana, pictured, for an illegal bowling action, Cricket PNG will place the 21-year-old under the guidance of bowling specialist Vic Williams.
Cricket PNG CEO Greg Campbell told the media: “Nosiana will travel with the squad down to Australia at the end of this week, staying in Brisbane for the next five to six weeks playing club cricket. He’ll be under the tutelage of Vic Williams who is a bowling specialist.
“There’s just some minor adjustments he has to make. I want to stress that Nosiana is not the only person in the world that this has happened to. I’m a bit critical of the way the ICC announced it to the world. But Nosiana is determined to come back bigger and better.
“He’s only 21, a tall left arm fast bowler which is unique for PNG. We’ll put every endeavour and effort in helping Nosiana come back a better bowler,” Campbell said.
Barramundis coach Joe Dawes spoke highly of Pokana who has the potential to spear head PNG’s blowing attack for the next decade.
“I’m really excited about what Nosiana can bring to the team. He’s a big boy with a good left arm and is able to swing the ball,” Dawes said.
“Vic Williams is the right person to assist Nosiana; he did run the bowling correction programme in Queensland. Vic is a great operator and Nosiana is in good hands.”
Pokana was reported during a One Day International (ODI) between PNG and Hong Kong in Dubai on Dec 8, 2017.
Pokana can apply for a re-assessment after modifying his bowling action.
